TES began in 1910 as the Times Educational Supplement (you can read the first edition here). Yet it was only a supplement within The Times newspaper for four years, becoming a separate, stand-alone publication for teachers in 1914.
From its very first issue it showed a fascination with different approaches to teaching, not just in Britain, but in other parts of Europe and beyond.
Today, as well as producing the weekly magazine, TES journalists also write regular news blogs providing up-to-the-minute analysis on developments in education.
While TES focuses on schools, its sister magazine THE (Times Higher Education) was launched in 1971 to cover universities, and now runs the globally respected THE World University Rankings.
